There is a great series of instructional climbing videos on YouTube posted by Climb X Media. From the above video you can access a number of others in this series by other ridiculous climbers.
I like this particular one from Lynn Hill because, well, she is one of the best in the world, and I think it highlights a serious issue for most climbers working to get to that next level: patience.
This is a serious concern of mine when I climb, as I tend to grow really anxious once on belay, firing blindly up the first few holds in a naive method of gaining momentum. I have come to realize that I don’t think enough about each move and the importance of getting into a rhythm. Thus, my flow starts to wane and I find myself taking too long on some moves and not enough on others.
I know that part of it is impatience. I want to get by the climb, beat the route and move on. I need to change that if I’m going to get better. I think this video helped clear some of that up for me.
